Avista Speech and Language Therapists promote communication independence using therapeutic assessment and intervention strategies.

In addition to working directly with the individuals we support, we also work closely with families, teachers, special needs assistants, keyworkers, caregivers and other relevant professionals by providing education and training workshops, advisory sessions and working on a consultative basis.

Our objective is to help those we support maximise their communication potential in social, economic, education and cultural environments, thereby increasing their quality of everyday life. We assess expressive, receptive, and social communication needs of the individuals we support and thereafter prescribing individualised supports.

We provide intervention combining both direct and indirect support through one-on-one therapy, group therapy, family supports, consultation and training. We also support individuals to use Alternative and Augmentative Communication such as Lámh – the Irish Sign Language system, and smart phones/tablets and other communication devices.
